Horses
Current Horses
We currently take care of 5 horses, and 2 donkeys - but if in a position, we are willing to adopt and comfort others. See below if you wish to learn more about the horses we currently have. We also ask you to please consider sponsoring a horse, as this may greatly influence the life of a child.
ZZ
ZZ was born on September 15th, 2003 and came to live with us at the ranch in July of 2010. ZZ is a lovely, gentle, very relaxed and laid back sorrel gelding. ZZ was a working horse for a neighboring ranch and was struggling to keep up with his job. ZZ was given to us by our neighbor who wanted him to have a good home and be well loved by lots of children.
When ZZ arrived at our ranch, his feet were very sore so we decided to remove his shoes and put him out to pasture to spend the winter to let his hooves grow. Over the course of the winter, we realized that something was just not right with ZZ but we could not put our finger on it. After speaking with other horse people and sharing the symptoms we saw, I decided to take hair samples and send them to a lab for verification of what we thought. In February of 2011 the test results came back and he was confirmed as being HYPP positive. This is a genetic disorder that has to do with the way his body releases and manages potassium and sodium into the muscle. The sodium floods the muscle which causes spasms and then paralysis. We try our best to manage this disorder by regulating ZZ's diet and giving him some medication to help dissipate sodium. Today, he is a happy horse that hangs out in the herd with the girls.
Chesney
Chesney has marked the beginning of a long and joyous path to be embarked by this program. Chesney was born on May 29th, 1999 and in 2008, This Appaloosa mare was the first horse to join our ranch. With lots of good food and care and time, Chesney learned that living with us is a good deal.
Not long after moving to our ranch property in 2010, Chesney was diagnosed with a disorder known as EPM which is caused by a parasite. This parasite passed into her central nervous system causing lesions on her spine which caused her to loose feeling in her hindquarter. It was a very emotional time, but Chesney is a fighter and a survivor! Twice we thought we were going to have to put her down but she would keep trying to get better. She would look at us with her soft brown eyes like she was pleading "don't give up on me," and we didn't.
Today, Chesney will run around the pasture bucking and caring on having the best time. She does have some minimal permanent nerve damage in her hind legs but it does not stop her. Chesney will not carry a rider on anymore trail rides but she can teach you all about ground manners and being safe around horses. We hope in the future that she will be able to safety carry kids in the arena. God Willing!
Reno
Reno came to join our ranch in February 2011. Reno, a sorrel and white mustang who started his life in April of 2006 in the Snowstorm Mountains in Winnemucca, Nevada. He lived for some time in Illinois before making his way to Georgia in 2009. A friend of mine had given him a home for some time but was not able to keep him so, we offered him a new home with us. Reno is a very friendly fellow with a cute curly mustache and he loves people and food! Reno has been a fun addition to our herd and is a patient teacher.
Winchester
Winchester came to live on the ranch as a 7 year old in July of 2011. He was given to us by a friend who was not in a position to maintain his upkeep and she wanted him to have a good home. When she heard of our ranch she new that Winchester would love getting to be around lots of kids. To sum up Winchester, all I can say is "What a character!!" This horse loves people and loves to play. He will play with your hat, scarf, clothes, hair, buckets, ropes, you name it he will play with it! Winchester has been a joy for all of us.
Mocha
Mocha is a sweet little mare who made her way to our ranch in spring of 2010. She was born in May of 2008. Mocha was living at a boarding facility with her mother and the owner realized that they could not afford to keep two horses. A friend of mine asked if we would consider giving her a home and we were delighted to say yes. Due to her previous owners lack of knowledge, Mocha was not given proper nourishment so she did not grow as large as she could have. Due to her size, she is considered a "pony", and she is one of the sweetest ponies I have ever met. Mocha has big brown soulful eyes that can make a person melt. She loves people and loves to be brushed.
BB
BB is a miniature Bethlehem Burro who originally arrived at our ranch as a 2 year old in spring of 2010 for a temporary stay. BB became the instant inseparable companion to Chesney on her first day at the ranch. Within weeks of her arrival, Chesney got sick and had to be isolated from the rest of the herd. We naturally put BB with her for companionship as they were best friends. Over the course of a few months, it became apparent that it would be heartbreaking to separate Chesney and BB, so my friend agreed to donate BB to all of us here at the ranch. What a blessing BB has been. She is as sweet as sweet can be and loves for people to stand around and scratch her itchy spots or to just be touching her. Many burros bear a dark black stripe across their withers

Jack
Jack arrived at the ranch just on time to be the star in Liberty Hill United Methodist Church's first live nativity scene in December of 2010. Jack was born on February 1st, 1995 and spent a good part of his life in a petting farm environment. Upon his arrival here, he has been deemed “Sir Jack”, as he is the most senior and has been the perfect gentleman. Jack is another one who loves to be scratched or just have a person hang out with him.
